Benchmark Xeon vs Opteron

Which is faster in all aspects Xeon base CPU servers or Opteron base CPU servers:

Personally here @ work we encounter low system performance. Our servers here is base on a Dual Xeon processor @2.8Ghz with a 2GB of memory but due to the vast data residing in our server w/c is about 48GB, user's experienced a very slow transaction on our ERP

right now where on the process of addressing this concerns and i need help could anybody share on w/c better CPU for servers?

bro computertech, have you tried checking the performance logs as to what really the bottleneck is? are the processors really in 100 percent usage?

could be that performance is increased much faster with faster harddrives rather than faster procs.

@computertech ... my gosh .. we have almost same specs here in the office its just that it has about 5GB of mem but then again where are still in the process of moving our data to this machine ..

initially the culprit was due to many users access at thesame time and bulk data residing on our sqlserver. Performance log? Yes of course normally peak time or not the processors usage are always 100% rarely goes down with a MemUsage of 1.2 - 2.0GB

I have already talk with some sys ad friends and they recommend me that Opteron base CPU is way much faster than Xeon base server (@least for now ho knows in the future im talking to myself hehe), and paired with at least 2GB of Kingston ECC certified memory modules would greatly improve system performance so as of the moment where canvassing opteron CPU with compaq mobo hope things would be in place and it wallah will make some magic hehe ill be posting soon with screenshot if our opteron server will be in place... Recommendation is open... pls

hehehe u have a point but not a BINGO "Not all glitters are Gold", opteron base cpu is cheaper than Xeon base CPU and thats not all Opteron works much faster than Xeon as for now, and also the Server license for opteron base server is quite cheaper compared to its rival but mind you im not promoting AMD here hehe
