due to the characteristic of QoS in windows only delays the queue of packets which is quite ineffective in heavy wan streaming network. it wont limit and 100% of bandwidth is still shared to each workstations.

Netlimiter gamit nako, kung ka install sad ka sa pc atong user nga kusog kaau mo download. Pero kung sa router ra ka mag config, lain sad na. Sturyahi lang gud ug tarong, kung di mada sturya, gamiti ug ....

DD-WRT's QOS is working perfect for me. I flashed it on my old DLINK DIR-300 and its been running absolutely well for 2 years now. everytime naay mu hog sa bandwidth sa amo balay labi na mag torrent ako mga manghud, i just enable QOS and everything is back to normal. of course, i still disable it again when i dont need to use the internet para pud maka download sila kay luoy pud hehehe. Im not sure how your router implements QOS, it varies in every firmware. DD-WRT does it on a priority basis, I can prioritize bandwith to either the IP Address, Mac address, a subnet, or even a particuar service, like voip, p2p, torrent, gaming, http, etc... also its very tricky to setup. needs trial and error and a lot of testing till you finally get it right. and your downlink and uplink setting should nearly (if not exactly) reflect your actual given DL/UP speed at that time (by doing speedtest, etc), otherwise it wont work properly and even make it much worse. this setting needs tweaking from time to time since the QOS algorithm is highly dependent on these values.

this would be a good solution but cmon, this is just for home use not a corporate office. the router itself can do its job pretty well. having a dedicated linux box or even a simple windows proxy server box to act as firewall is overkill IMO, albeit more costly than just taking advantage of what you currently have.

    funny word to cling to.

a linux which is FREE is overkill versus to a commercial non-free router equipment? does it need to be a corporate office to use linux? ^^ give me a break!

linux has even free open source bandwidth shaping programs that you can choose of, i believe you know that.

you dont understand. what i mean by overkill, thats because he would need another box with 2 LAN cards just to run linux and make it the firewall/proxy server. this is just for his house and he ALREADY has an existing router, and by corporate office, i meant the volume of users, thats why in those cases you would need a dedicated box to handle and filter the connections since a basic router's specs can no longer handle it with the amount of processing power and memory requirement. and you have to consider the learning curve you would need if you are not already using linux. just plainly setting up your EXISTING router in your HOME properly is plain and simple. no EXTRA cost.
