puts into mind how certain ethnic groups are marginalized and discriminated against when it comes to certain opportunities (the dark-skinned Aetas and Dumagats, the Lumads and Muslim minorities)

prejudices still abound against these groups. (Aetas being 'ugly', Muslims being 'terrorists', etc.)

if the bill cannot be ammended to include this kind of discrimination, then i believe another bill targeting discrimination against ethnic minorities would be in order.

No. Did I advocate such a thing? You know quite well I didn't. It does NOT follow that because I think homosexual acts are wrong that I must hate homosexuals. The Catholic Church teaching has always been to hate the sin but love the sinner. That is what we should practice.

it then follows that whether or not we think that homosexuality is wrong, we can still agree that they are humans, therefore deserving to be treated equally just like any other.
Correct. That is why we must examine the text of the bill because many such bills (though not necessarily this one) go FAR BEYOND fair treatment. Some laws/bills actually grant special privileges, giving such politically protected special interests MORE RIGHTS than the rest of us. This is clearly wrong. I'm downloading the text of HB 634 now.

it also is an undeniable fact that much more discrimination is directed towards homosexuals and those with diffrentiated gender identities than those done by homosexuals towards the heterosexual crowd.
Not necessarily true. Militant homosexuals go FAR BEYOND in terms of discrimination and intolerance than what most decent people who simply disagree with gays do. On a per-person basis, the discrimination and hatred exhibited by the militant homosexual movement is probably no less (and possibly even MORE) than that dished out to them. Militant gays have been known to trash churches, molest nom-gay children, murder non-gays, and do exactly the same things they accuse homophobes of doing. They are not necessarily better than anyone else.

fortunately, a middle way is present. we may not be able to agree that homosexuality and acting differently from socially prescribled gender, but we can respect and accept them as humans. this is the core of the anti-discrimination bill or any anti-discrimination legislation for that matter.
We will have to see the actual text of such bills to determine whether they actually do attmept to legislate this middle way. Simply ASSUMING that they do isn't good enough.

That is exactly what I meant when I said that the bill should have a wider scope. Maybe then we will be more careful in what we say about other people, and maybe then will it end the discrimination of Tagalogs against the Bisaya, the Bisaya against the Tagalogs, etc.

friends...what a bunch of holier than thou attitudes *rolls eyes in disbelief* ...can't believe we are even "discussing" this....

for those who advocate "morality" ....high ethics etc....i give my finger to you!

Jesus said "Judge not so ye will not be judged"

Homosexuality is a preference...just as some of you clean moral people have "dirty" fantasies....it is not a disease...so these brothers/sisters of ours should not be shunned ....

Jesus demonstrated that he was not above talking to harlots, corrupt usurers and other sinners....so who are we to condemn?

I support the bill ...and hope next thing they consider is legalizing divorce.

@lestat....ganja is legal in other parts of the world....suppression makes it more enticing....if things are legalized then there will be laws that can be used for control....and i did not say legalize ganja...i said divorce...so i would appreciate it very much if you don't put words in my mouth....ok ba bro?

to other istoryans...i am not good with splitting hairs...i only believe in sharing personal views...i am sad to say that in the politics forum the issues are so inflammatory lisod i resist sa lantugi...so i will gracefully exit from these dicussions and go back to the threads which are more to my taste....

my apologies to those whose opinions i stepped on..

    peace to all
