The vibrant colors and culture of Brazil came alive in this year’s biggest flip-flops customization event. To kick off the 9th annual Make Your Own Havaianas, a special preview night for Havaianaticos was held recently at the Activity Center of the Ayala Center Cebu.
The event was a celebration of everything Brazil, the birthplace of Havaianas, from the lively beats filling the air to set the festive mood courtesy of DJ Elmer Dado and Gruppo Tribale, the ladies greeting guests wearing the iconic fruit headdress of samba singer Carmen Miranda, this year’s special themed embellishments, to the sumptuous Brazilian dishes which included Bolinos de Bacalhau (salt codfish fritters), Empadinhas (Brazilian shrimp pies), Kielbasa Sausages and Pao de Queijo (Brazilian cheese puffs), capped off by Brigadeiro (chocolate truffles) and a traditional Cartola (sweet bananas, fresh mozarella, cinnamon) for dessert.
Warmly welcoming everyone were Aimil Sarmiento and Leanne Florendo, managing directors of A.L. Amizade Marketing Inc., the exclusive sub-distributors of Havaianas in Central and Eastern Visayas. “MYOH brings to life fun, function, and fashion – three things our brand always depicts. It is the perfect way to have a true Havaianas experience.” shares Florendo.
Creative juices were flowing as guests mixed and matched everything from soles, straps to the fun limited edition featuring Brazilian beats, wildlife, flavors, and beaches. A dash of local flavor was added for the first time with a special heart-shaped Cebu pin exclusively designed by renowned Cebuano furniture designer Vito Selma. This year’s commemorative pair featured colorful Bonfim ribbons that are worn for good luck, inspired by a 200-year old tradition from Brazil which wishes every wearer Alegria, Diversao, Empolgacao, Euforia, and Felicidade or Joy, Amusement, Excitement, Euphoria and Bliss – true to the Havaianas “always summer” spirit.
