Marco Polo Plaza Cebu’s General Manager Max Huber welcomes guests and VIPs to the Lunar New Year Celebration
Aside from the Hai Shin Lou special menus, the Lunar New Year Celebration started with the Dotting Ceremony. First, the forehead is dotted to give the Lion life. Second are the eyes for sight—the Lion performs a Dance after the Eye Dotting Ceremony. Fireworks completed the ceremony.
The purpose of the ritual is to empower the Lion to fulfill its duty of bringing good luck, protection, prosperity, and good health to those present. In Chinese culture, the eyes reflect the spirit; thus, the last step before the Lion comes alive is for its eyes to be dotted.
The Yee Sang Tossing followed after. Yee Sang, also known as the Prosperity Toss or Lo Hei, is a colorful salad with various ingredients carefully curated by Chef Kenny—each ingredient symbolizing different aspects of prosperity and luck. Tossing the ingredients into the air is believed to usher in good fortune and positive energy for the coming year. Guests enjoyed the colorful salad after the toss.
