    Default Comelec Registration

CEBU, Philippines- The Cebu Provincial Election Office is requesting additional six voter registration machines for the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Toledo to speed up the registration process in these areas.

Provincial election supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said he had already requested six machines for the three cities which are expected to arrive next month.

With Comelec’s offsite registration, Castillano said they see the need for additional machines so as not to disrupt the voters’ registration in their respective Comelec offices.

“Sa offsite gud nga registration, ang mahitabo, ang among opisina wala’y registration kay dad-on man ang machine. Mao na nga ni-request ko og additional machines kay para bisan mag-offsite mi, naa lang gihapon registration sa among opisina kay daghan man sad ang mangadto,” he said.

Meanwhile, Castillano said there will be an offsite voter’s registration at the Pacific Mall in Mandaue City this coming July 24 and 31.

He said the voting precinct at the mall is very limited considering that only residents living in the barangay where the mall is located can vote.

“Di sad tanang presinto. Kung unsa nga barangay na butangang mall, kana rapud nga barangay ang makabutar. Pero di sad tanan. Di nato ipalayo ang mga botante sa ilang mga voting precincts,” Castillano added.

Meanwhile, Senator Chiz Escudero, in a statement, urged voters to register before the October 31 deadline.

Escudero, who is touted to run for vice president in the 2016 local and national elections, said that the right to vote or suffrage is one of the most crucial rights of the Fi-lipinos and of all peoples of all democratic countries.

He said aside from the 4.3 million voters with unverified biometric data, around 500,000 will have to repeat the validation process because they have incomplete information in the Comelec database.

According to the Mandatory Biometrics Registration Act of 2013, registered voters who do not validate their biometric data will be taken out of the voters’ list and will not be allowed to vote next year.

“We need to participate in the very long process of electing into office people we believe are deserving and this long process, sometimes viewed as tedious, starts with having yourself registered properly,” said Escudero.

The Comelec has intensified its “No Bio No Boto” campaign starting this month with the aim to make the mandatory biometrics data more accessible to the general public.

"According to the Mandatory Biometrics Registration Act of 2013, registered voters who do not validate their biometric data will be taken out of the voters’ list and will not be allowed to vote next year."
