I dont know if it should be here or the humor section.

It’s a Tagalog drama cliché when an actress portrays the role of a Cebuana (or Bisayas in general) who speaks Tagalog with a thick accent.


To add insult to the injury, this character is always a house helper or yaya going by the name ‘Inday’.



But, Cebuanos don’t seem to mind and protests are almost never heard of.


Majority of them still watch Filipino dramas avidly.


Do Cebuanos prefer English than Tagalog?

Perhaps it’s the reason why they don’t complain being portrayed as being bad at Tagalog but lose their mind when their proficiency in English is mocked.





Maybe their Tagalog is really bad as what we see in the movies and speaking English is a better alternative.


Do you think Cebuanos dislike the Tagalogs that’s why they refuse to speak their language?


Or is it because of Cebuano pride or they are just bad at Tagalog?


To be fair, Cebuanos are good in English.

Cebuanos might prefer English than Tagalog as a way to communicate to non-Cebuanos.


Are we going to see the day when English slowly replaces the Cebuano language as Cebu’s main language.

Mas inclined gyud ta mga Cebuanos sa English kaysa Tagalog it is because it is the way we were raised. In schools, English ang medium nga gigamit, not Tagalog. During my time, duha ra gyud nga subject ang Tagalog ang gamit (Filipino and Araling Panlipunan). In addition to that, di gyud ta tig gamit ug Tagalog kay Bisaya man ta so that is why daghan mga Cebuanos ang di maayo mag Tagalog.

Regarding the "yaya" or "helper" issue. Di man siguro Cebuanos per se ang gipasabot ana. Bisaya lang gyud ang pagkaportray sa mga yaya kay tungod most of them came from provinces and outside Luzon (even sa Southern part of Luzon), basta probinsiya, daghan kaayo mga Bisaya.

Sometimes, I find it funny when tagalog people speak in english.

Their "f" sounds likes "P", and their "P" sounds like "f".

Their "S" sounds "ey-S" i.e they pronounce "special" es-spay-syal. Just imagine Noli De Castro say it if you know what i mean.

And, i really find this funny. The word "confirm".

Anyways, what i mean is, if we sound funny to them they also sound funny to us. Compensate ra.
