    Default cisco 3500 xl

    hi, just want to ask as to how do you configure this switch so that the users are able to connect to the internet. our set up is

    pldt modem --> proxy --> switch -->users.

    we don't have a cisco router connected in this network. the other nic of the proxy is connected to a port on the switch. thanks gurus.

    brod, it can only let a small amount of users to connect to the internet. It will depend on the subnet that is assigned by your ISP. For example 71.34.25.89 mask is 255.255.255.248. With this subnet configuration, 5 lang ka users ang makaconnect. But since you need more than 5 users to connect I suggest you buy a router. Kay ang switch wala na siya DHCP server.

    if you want to configure the 3500 as l3 switch, be sure to configure routes in the proxy going to each of the vlan

    i don't think you need to configure the switch in order for the users to connect to the internet. after assigning static local ip addresses to the users and proxy server, you just need to enter the proxy server details in the browsers of the users. after that users will be able to browse the net.

    if a proxy server is not required, another alternative would be to reconfigure your modem to router mode and enable dhcp. after that you just have to connect everything to the switch including the modem, configure all the pc's to obtain ip address automatically, and that's it.
