Default Which is better: Canon SX1 or SX10?

i guess the sx1 is more expensive because of the CMOS sensor basically but as far as the hobby is concerned, do both take high quality pictures within the full iso range? what about full manual controls, are they easily manageable? i am a practical hobbyist...i like to do macro to wide angle panoramic shots (not particularly fond of photostitching) and occasionally experiment with natural light portraits, which of these two, SX1 or SX10 will give the best bang for the buck?

btw, by canon standards, these are almost old models, any hints of newer models on the horizon?..thanks for ur inputs.

SX10IS is obsolete because of SX20IS? Grabe marketing jud.

Let's see... Only higher megapix and improved video capability.. No more Sound Memo and Sound Recorder functions? tsk tsk

My SX10IS is here to stay...

the CMOS sensor in the SX1 IS has more noise than the SX10 IS... so mas nindot ang SX10 kung image quality imong gi-apas... but then kung ganahan ka sa video function sa SX1... nga HD, then mas better gyud ug video ang SX1... hasta ang iyang burst mode... mas faster siya than SX10.

since youll be buying a camera, focus more on still image quality of which canon sx10is has. the only plus of sx1is are the raw(can be available also in sx10is through 3rd party firmware), and the hd video(you should buy a camcorder instead if you prioritize this). fish is right, canon failed to implement cmos sensor in a small size of which produces bad noise in average ISO speeds of which is present in sx1is. the quality of video of sx10is is great, and more than already for a basic video capture due to it has some video options and 80x zoom usable. read reviews.

    @ esc

the sensor size of that sx20 is same with sx10, they(canon) only bumped up the pixel size. amplified pixel on same sensor size normally degrades image quality. just like with d40 to d40x. this sx20 is more on marketing jacket.

thank you sir chipmunk888 ug fish....image quality man gyud prime need in this hobby.

sx10 is much cheaper than sx1. i wonder sab sa price difference ug availability sa sx20 compared to sx10. 12mp ra ba diay ang sx20, but as you mentioned, its the same sensor size as sx10 ra so not a significant improvement gyud.

the thing is, i like to experiment with macro as well as panoramic landscape. so a large zoom like that in the sx10 should be an economical start.

    mga sirs,

this is just me pero i dont agree that we carelessly call a superseded model as obsolete. obsolescence means not being useable anymore. sx10 is pretty much an advanced digital prosumer camera in itself for many years to come...imho lang
