Rape is a public crime, the government should get involved in any rape case. Last I checked, the police are part of the government. And how do you know Gabriela won't get involved if a women is raped by local soldiers? Gabriela is a women's advocacy group, they are after the protection of all women. Maybe you're just too cynical and think they're involved only for publicity.

As I said before , my stand on the issue is investigate it first . ABi kay AMERKANO ang na accused GUILTY na dayon . ABi kay naay condom nakit-an GUILTY na dayon . The reports are not consistent , prove it first na na rape siya . They didnt even release the name of the girl sa AFAIK , she is not a minor .

i agree with u springfield_Xl, investigate sad jud sa..... lets not be hypocrite naglisod na tanan tawo sa pilipinas , MOST people mu grab na all the opportunities mapa bad or good ...survival na giapas sa mga tao karon, naa pud posibility na its not rape.....it should be investigated ist before judging the 6 american soldiers.. pero kung ma proven na rape they should face the punishment gyud death penalty jud ang angay...

I'm not judging the American soldiers... I just think it's unfair to speculate that the woman was probably a "prostitute" and "out for money" since Filipinos are "opportunists" and "MOST people mu grab na all the opportunities mapa bad or good ...survival na giapas sa mga tao karon".

Why don't people investigate first if the woman is really a prostitute before saying she probably is one? Then they say that we shouldn't assume that the Americans are guilty but should investigate first? Isn't that another double-standard?

No wonder rape is an underreported crime... na-rape na ka (by 6 American soldiers at that), then people who don't even know the circumstances make assumptions pa na you're a prostitute and an opportunist out to extort money. Sigh.

A MILITANT alliance of Filipinos in the United States condemned on Friday the alleged gang rape of a 22-year-old Filipina by six US Marines on All Saints' Day.

The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (New Patriotic Alliance, Bayan)-USA said the suspects must be handed over to Philippine authorities, noting that the country in previous similar cases "surrendered its criminal jurisdiction to the United States."

"They must surrender to Philippine jurisdiction be tried and held accountable to the Filipino people and its legal system," said Bayan-USA spokesperson Berna Ellorin in an e-mail sent to Philippine media.
"This heinous crime against the Filipino people at the hands of the US military troops commands nothing less than comprehensive justice," she said.

Philippine foreign affairs undersecretary Zosimo Paredes, executive director of the Visiting Forces Agreement Commission, on Thursday said the suspects are under the "physical custody" of the US Embassy in Manila.

Philippine authorities said US authorities were cooperating in the investigation.

On Thursday, the suspects, who participated in joint counterterrorism exercises in the Philippines, were barred from boarding their departing ship after a witness identified them as the culprits in the alleged gang rape.

A complaint filed with the Olongapo prosecutor's office identified the servicemen as Keith Silkwood, Daniel Smith, Albert Lara, Dominic Duplantis, Corey Barris and Chad Carpenter.

Paredes said the six Marines met the Filipino woman on Tuesday in Subic Bay, a former US naval base that has been transformed into an industrial and recreational hub north of Manila.

The alleged victim was in a karaoke bar when she met the Americans who invited her to go with them in a rented van.
A few hours later, witnesses said they saw the woman being dumped unconscious from a van on a road, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority said in a statement.

The VFA was ratified by the Philippine Senate in May 1999. It gives the US military access to Philippine ports and airports for refueling, supplies, repairs, and rest and recreation. The agreement also covers situations where US troops are in the country for joint exercises or shore leave.

Militant groups say that before the bases were closed in the early 1990s, there were 52 cases of rape, physical and sexual abuse committed against young women and children in areas surrounding the bases but that not a single American soldier had been arrested and convicted of the offenses.
"The Macapagal-Arroyo government, if it is one with its people, must facilitate such a due process. Anything else is not justice," Ellorin said, adding that there should be no immunity for the suspects. With Inquirer News Service

mao bitaw INVESTIGATE sa jud before any speculation kay daghan mga possibilities....when u say investigate it means imbestigahan ang kaso or " case" which is which..if rape ba jud to or not, bec. she voluntarily get in the van wala siya gipugos,so maka come up pud ta ug mga speculation diba?? pareha rana if u assume na the 6 us military is guilty then that would be double standard pud....without knowing unsa jud to klasi na babaye .... but as what i said before kung ma proven jud to na rape then the 6 US military have to face the punishment..

So ok ra to speculate that the girl is a prostitute and just out for money, without investigating first, because according to you "MOST people mu grab na all the opportunities mapa bad or good ...survival na giapas sa mga tao karon"? In that case, why can't we speculate that the Americans did rape her (I'm not speculating that they did, I'm just asking a question).

Even if she voluntarily got in the van, does that mean she wasn't raped? Why bring that up? In fact, why bring up "survival" and "hard times" and all that? Why bring up the issue of her being a prostitute (and for the record, according to SBMA officials, she was not). Those are non-issues. The only real issue is whether those American soldiers forced her to have *** against her will.
