The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has created a multitasked special unit specifically designed to respond to incidents involving organized crime and terrorist organizations.
The CIDG chief, Director Jesus Versoza, said in a memorandum that the unit will undertake operations requiring special weapons and tactics necessary in hostage-taking and terrorist-related incidents. It is also directed to deal with cases involving bank robberies, kidnappings and other high-profile crimes such as the murders of political activists and journalists in the country.
The creation entails e reconstitution, retraining, and deployment of personnel and inventory of their equipment and other special gear.
The unit will report directly to the CIDG director. Its members will be exempt from any other duty detail, particularly civil disturbance management chores.

Palagpat ka imo. You can't even show how this law will give Arroyo carte blanche or whatever it is you're blabbing about. Just another futile attempt on your part to demonize the current administration.Originally Posted by patsadahon
Since it is our legislators who are deliberating on this anti-terrorism bill, it is up to them to ensure that safeguards are imposed to prevent the law from being used for political persecution. It is stupid to summarily reject the anti-terrorism bill just because of the paranoia of the opposition. We might as well be sitting ducks for the next bombing attack.
News: PGMA discussed yesterday with the US ambassador Kenney and the commander of US forces in the Pacific adm.Fallon to renewed the joint efforts of manila and US to fight terrorism and other securiy threats.
Sec. Mike Defensor stressed the importance of reducing poverty in the fight against terrorism as well as the new security arrangement with Washington that would allow wider US military involvement in dealing with security threats in the philippines, seen as a weak link in the US-led global campaign on terrorism. He said that they talked about ways to forge more areas of cooperation between our two countries under the security framework to address non-traditional threats.
