read the word on the title EXPLOIT. If hospitals are truly concerned about their patient's welfare, they should screen those RNs who wants to volunteer, to see if they're really fit to do the job or not. Not by taking money from them.

I based my opinion from what i learned from conversations with Hospital Staff, Trainees, Volunteers, and even Hospital Mgt. and most importantly from experience of my siblings too.

with the tone of your explanation, i think you are not a registered nurse, it's hard for you to understand our struggle..U see the real situation in hospitals about the sad plight of Filipino nurses.

Don't tell me about not understanding the plight of Filipino Nurses since I help for the finances of my brother, sister and niece so they become RN's.

After the Mass from Mabolo Church then the Fun Walk to Ayala I asked a few of them about their opinion on these FEES being implemented by the Hospitals.

good thing some of your family members are nurses. are they volunteering or working as regular employees in the hospital? tell me what have you understood about our plight? I cant do something about those fees, i am not the owner of those hospitals implementing such fees, i am not a legislator wherein i can past a law putting a stop to these exploitation. the utmost thing that i can do is not to be part of the filthy system that is happening in those hospitals. why would i convince the 180,000 JOBLESS REGISTERED NURSES? for what? if they like to work as volunteers, that's fine that is their prerogative, they have their reasons though, and i have mine too. i am just presenting the current situation of Filipino nurses and how abusive they are.

EXTRA? i don't think so... hospitals are understaffed with nurses. There are hospitals in the remote areas of the country don't even have a Registered Nurse. Its so frustrating to realize that nurses have to pay hospitals for them to have experience. Hospitals are using this as an income generating means at the same time, saving labor cost in augmenting the lack of health care workers. This is a false labor practice indeed. There are a lot of good things about this profession, we can't afford to sacrifice its nobility with these false labor practices.

RN's in the Philippines most especially those neophytes are the most vulnerable to abuse and exploitation by hospitals. There is no argument on this. "Volunteerism" by nurses in hospital is not at all "volunteerism" in the truest sense. I say this because new nurses have got no choice but rather submit themselves to this unfair practice by hospitals with employment promises come the end of the volunteer period. Nurses are left with no choice as "Volunteerism" now becomes part of the protocol in employing nurses be it expressed or implied. It is even sickenning to know that this may seemingly be the acceptable practice in hospitals in the Philippines, yet the proper agencies concerned do not even mediate, intervene and adopt measures to curb this unethical practice. Some say that "volunteersim" by nurses in hospital is a symbiotic relaltionship as both benefit from it, not at all for me because our nursing education has prepared us to become nurse generalist which is supposed to qualify us an entry level position in hospitals. Once employed, these hospitals have now the obligation to provide for us the needed training...Again i'd like to define what volunteerism is...it is an act done consciously and willfully given a set of choices...not out of no choice at all.

i think that every nurse is entitled to his own decision. if he feels it is alright to volunteer/train and pay for it, then it is his decision. it is difficult to look for a nursing job now so if they are really interested in nursing, it is much better to pay for the volunteer/training work and learn while being in the hospital rather than just sitting at home or working on some other jobs.

for those who think that this is degrading, then don't go for paid volunteer/training work. different strokes for different folks.

VERY, VERY TRUE. 3500 na ila training. and muana man sila ig orientation na TRAINING daw is different from VOLUNTEER work mao nay bayad. but bottomline is kita gihapon nagbayad nila.
