    Default Cebu Town History Project

    The project, which intends to produce 55 books detailing the histories of each town and city in Cebu, is a brainchild of Gov. Garcia, who already expressed her desire to produce definitive histories of each town and city in the province---the first of its kind ever in the history of the country.

    The project was sponsored by Hon. Agnes Magapale of the Cebu Provincial Board, which has unanimously approved assigned P12 million to the University of San Carlos to produce these definitive histories within 26 months. Each book is to be penned by a writer recommended by each town and city executive.

    This Project will produce press-ready manuscripts of Cebu Province (approx. 300pp), The Cebu Provincial Capitol (approx. 100pp), the 44 municipalities and 9 component cities (approx. 200pp each). A 55-volume set of the histories of Cebu Province, the Provincial Capitol, its 44 towns, and 9 cities.

    One Writer, per volume, will be chosen, preferably from the town and recommended by the LGU or, recruited by the Board of Editors;

    Recommendations of writers by the LGUs shall be facilitated by the Provincial Liaison Officer;

    Writers shall be appointed by the Board of Editors after reviewing samples of their work, and after measuring up to certain requirements;

    Orientation and Training of Writers will be conducted;

    Editors will periodically monitor the progress of the writers in their respective clusters;

    Researchers will conduct archival and supplementary research in and outside Cebu (to include relevant illustrations and photographs).

    Resil Mojares or Erlinda Kintanar Alburo would probably be the first choices for leading this...

    I hope they make the history available in the web (the city might even make some money from advertising)...

    Even more important is its license... a localized version of Creative Commons was just launched yesterday... http://www.manilatimes.net/national/...80113car2.html (Thank you Lawrence Lessig!)
