Okay, but in what way did Spanish Catholicism influence the mentality of the Filipinos and made the Philippines what it is today? I'm not Catholic and I would like to know its connection to our corrupt government, crimes from petty to violent and the free-for-all attitude in our society.

Why should I die for a country of idiots and cowards who say for instance elect en masse a retard like Pnoy? Haha e sugal akong kinabuhi para sa tambay na di magduha-duhag tulis nako kung mangitngitan? Kamo nalang.

I can't help but agree that there is some sad pang of reality to this statement.
The person you quoted is just being cynical and I understand his reasons I just don't think its the right way of seeing things. Nobody defends their country for idiots, cowards, criminals or a president they don't like. They defend their country for the sake of their families, friends and love for nation regardless of its imperfection. This is why soldiers have a habit keeping pictures of their loved ones like in their helmets and not pictures of their country's most wanted list.

I agree with this. As long as they manage to "respect" every person in the Philippines, I'll let them run my country.

We really can't change the country by ourselves, kailangan kita gyud tanan. I know it's hard since lahi-lahi gyud ang Filipinos nya daghan kaayong islands. We also have discrimination, stereotypes and prejudice. (I hate Filipinos discriminating/stereotyping Bisaya. Yeah, I hate them too. I hope I can see a President from Visayas or Mindanao area in my lifetime, that might restore my faith in Filipinos)

Are Filipinos worth it? Some of them, can't say all of them.

That will never happen as long as this country remains as is.

If, by chance we get to separate from Imperial Manila, then maybe.. maybe that will be possible.

    exactly
    one thing i observed:
wearing of the "proud to be pinoy" themed apparels--kanang na-ay map sa phils and the red-blue-white-stars and sun shirts, which for me is purely a merchandising powered by fad thing. pero pasul-oba ug barong tagalog or makakita naay mag barong tagalog ingnon pa mura patay or gihaya

they got mad, challenged me.. "kinsa man ka bai?"

yeah.. do little things for our country. i did.
Well at times there are unfortunate events like that , its not perfect , but lets not count the little things we do , if we truly mean to help we just do.

"A Philippines run like hell by Filipinos", a prediction by Manuel Quezon, made in the late 1940s, which is evidently coming true in our lifetimes.

"The Beatles is more famous than Jesus", said John Lennon, and a bullet ended his life.

    This country is doomed.
