After a three-year hiatus in album recording, the country’s Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla returns with a fresh new album under PolyEast Records entitled BEGINNINGS. She recently promoted her album last July 24 at The Gallery in Ayala Center Cebu and iStorya.net had the privilege of interviewing the Divine Diva before her show started.

The new album is lauded with refreshing ‘70s and ‘80s covers and expresses an inspirational warmth, honest talent and humble grace of a woman who’s paying tribute to a love the second time around. It has 10 easy listening remakes including “I Love You More Today Than Yesterday” by the Spiral Staircase, “I Just Want To Be Your Everything” by Andy Gibb, “How Deep Is Your Love” by the Bee Gees, “If You Leave Me Now” by Chicago and “Rainy Days and Mondays” by Benet, to which Zsa Zsa personally handpicked.

The new album is Zsa Zsa’s third album from PolyEast and BEGINNINGS is the most mellowed down album she has ever had. “These songs are my personal favorites especially Rainy Days and Mondays, but of course PolyEast also handpicked some of the songs,” she said. “Most of the songs are from the ‘70s but we included one song from the ‘80s which many can relate to.”

“The last album I had was all-OPM (Original Pilipino Music) so we decided to go back to covers. There’s something about my market na mas gusto nila to go back to the old music so we decided to make this album,” she added when asked about this album. As of the moment, Zsa Zsa said she has no plans yet on making another all-original album.

When asked about her inspiration for this album, Zsa Zsa said it’s the life she has right now after losing her great love three years ago and finding love the second time around. “The stage in my life right now is my inspiration. The past album I had was really sad, angry even. This album is very relaxing. You can listen to it in the morning when you go to work and it makes you happy.”

After 32 years in the music industry, Zsa Zsa has proved to be the iconic and the ultimate Divine Diva even with the new singers coming in and out of the music industry. She said there is no secret formula to her popularity and image. “I admit my time has passed. Pana-panahon talaga. I was a star of the ‘80s and I’m still surviving. It’s been 32 years and I’m so happy that I am still around. I’m grateful just to be here, to be able to still come out with an album. I hope the new generation will appreciate it as well,” she said.

Zsa Zsa wanted to thank all the people who still support her, especially the Cebuanos. “Thank you very much to everyone and I hope to have a concert someday again, even guesting. I would love that very much.”

Those were her final words before the interview ended. After signing some CDs, the one and only Divine Diva came up on stage and sang these timeless hits in front of her fans. I must say, her voice is truly divine.

BEGINNINGS is now available in stores released by PolyEast Records for only Php300. The album is also available for downloads on iTunes, SpinnrPh and Deezer. For more information, you may log-on to www.polyeastreacords.com or follow PolyeastRecords on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
