• National Anti-Boredom Month

Everyone dreads being bored all the time. Kids, most especially, get bored easily during summer vacation. This is why July is celebrated as the National Anti-Boredom Month in some countries.

This celebration started in 1984 when Alan Curaba spoofed Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. It eventually led to the establishment of The Boring Institute where they create yearly spoofs on, the top boring movies or the top boring celebrities. It all started out with putting fun on a boring event, but Alan Curaba later realized how boredom can cause severe depression, anxiety and ultimately suicidal tendencies to people. He later published a book called Beating Boredom, a book about how to overcome and avoid boredom.

There are many ways to beat boredom. During summer, kids are enrolled in summer camps where they get to know more people and do fun activities in the summer. Others enroll in summer classes such as cooking, crafting and sports. If summer classes are too expensive, you can enjoy fun activities at home like crafting or even by helping out in the house.

Boredom strikes everywhere and it does not only affect kids. Even when busy, adults sometimes get bored with routine work. You can fight boredom by doodling, chatting with colleagues or even just walking around. Coloring is also a great way to fight boredom.

They say idle minds are the devil’s playground. Keep yourself busy by doing fun activities to keep your mind off negative thoughts. What do you do when you get bored? Share with us.
