His grandfather died when he was entering his last year in high school. This prompted them to move to their Aunt's place. Moving means transferring from a private school in the city to a public school.
Being in a private school meant that he had access to computers at home and in school. Learning the basics was a no-brainer. In fact, he excelled in their computer class. However, when he transferred to the province, reality struck him that being in a private school was way too easy.
He was shocked that a class of 60 had to share 6 working computers only, and it's not updated at all. The teacher had to share his teachings based on theories. But what's really heartwarming is that all in the class were so enthusiastic in learning computer basics. Why? Because they are eager to learn something that is unfamiliar to them.
This is a sad fact in most of our public schools nowadays, especially in the provinces. Most of them are far behind the fast evolution of technology because they lack resources. We may not feel it because we are so adept and so into technology that tendency is, we are not aware of what's lacking with the rest of the community.
It's a good thing that there are organizations right now who look past the computer screens and into the needs of the community, especially those in public schools.
You, too, can help and a fun way to help you can! Just play DOTA and you can help students from impoverished schools in Cebu identified by the Department of Education have computers for learning!
