I’ve lived in Australia for 14 years and not one Christmas goes by in that span of 14 years that I wished I could spend it in Cebu. You see, December is Perth’s summer. If you feel that Cebu is hot during your summer, imagine a dry one and a hotter one, with big flies roaming about.
Summer on December? Welcome to Perth!

I am one of the fortunate few whose immediate family is here with me. I still have relatives in Cebu, from my father’s side. I communicate with them through Skype for video calling or spy on their Facebook accounts to know their whereabouts and what’s happening (isn’t that what people do mostly now?)
This Christmas, it won’t be a holiday for me as I need to work. My aunt’s husband celebrates his birthday though, every Christmas Eve and she always throws a big party at her place every year. For the past 14 years, that’s where my husband and I spend our Christmases.
So anyway, there’s no brighter and lovelier Christmas than that of home—Cebu. I miss the food, I miss the noise, the Christmas carols (we never have that here!), fireworks and Christmas lights everywhere!
Can’t wait for that time when I can spend Christmas there again.

During Christmas, I communicate with my family in Cebu via the internet or phone calls. Here in Australia, Christmases are pretty low-key in the sense that we don’t have as much revelry, gatherings and greasy food! And funny enough, that’s most of the stuff we miss when we’re not in Cebu.
Other things I miss are of course the food and the firecrackers which would knock your eardrums off! And of course, friends and family.
Fortunately, my brother is also in Australia and my parents try to be here with us so that we can all be together on Christmas.
Let's talk (iSTORYA ta)!: Friends, if you have relatives and/or friends in Australia, shout out your Christmas greetings to them! It's not much but it sure balms the heart.
