Ayala Center Cebu recently hosted Fashion Homecoming. This event pays tribute to three international designers who are from Cebu City.
Fashion Homecoming kicked off with an exhibit showcasing their pieces. On November 17, an exclusive silent fashion show was held followed by a public runway show. The silent fashion show offers a sensory experience, allowing a unique perspective into the details of the designers' latest collections.
Jian Lasala's design aesthetic is always to keep it simple and real. He cites the Miss Universe 1994 pageant as the show that started it all. Proving that the pageant connection doesn't stop there, he dressed Hawa Kamara of Sierra Leone in a 35,000 rhinestone-studded evening gown at the Miss Universe 2016. Since those dreamer days, he has gone on to present his collections in a number of Fashion Weeks around the world.
Harvey Cenit’s collection was next to grace the runway. Cenit is from Medellin. As an industry icon in the Philippines, he designed pieces for actresses Mercedes Cabral and Lea Salonga. He now makes waves in Dubai as Head Designer of Al Arousa Al Aniqah.
“My collection is wearable couture. It’s a combination of western and eastern style. It has the right amount of innovation and elegance.” Shares Cenit.
Rounding up the show was Yves Camingue. Camingue has come a long way from being a finalist of Runway Philippines in 2012. He describes his style as, “Urban contemporary with a nod to culture for the modern citizen of the world.” Freida Pinto and Maureen Wroblewitz are some of the international celebrities he has worked with. Camingue’s collection has been shown in events like CENTRESTAGE in Hong Kong and the Bench Design Awards where he was a finalist.
All three designers and all homegrown talents, have highlighted just how world-class Cebuanos can be.
