Rags2Riches, Inc. (R2R), a fashion and design house and social enterprise empowering community artisans from the Philippines, is now weaving at Ayala Center Cebu (Level 1, Premium Brands Section). This is R2R’s first store outside Metro Manila and its sixth store in the Philippines.
R2R has made its primary objective to give artisans from poor, urban communities the opportunity to thrive and escape poverty. They do this by eliminating middlemen and giving fair wages to the artisans who create R2R’s handwoven and eco-ethical fashion and home accessories.
To be truly successful in this endeavor, R2R strives to be sustainable as a business and as a social enterprise. Building more stores and growing their online channels directly increases its impact because these avenues provide more opportunities for artisans.
Since it was founded nine years ago, R2R has partnered with designers like Rajo Laurel, Amina Aranaz-Alunan, Oliver Tolentino, and Olivia d’Aboville to produce masterpieces that combine style and sustainability, not sacrifice one for the other.
R2R has garnered both local and international awards. Among these are the Rolex Young Laureate by the Rolex Awards for Enterprise, Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, and Forbes 30 Under 30 by Forbes Magazine (Global). It has also been featured in publications such as CNN International, The Guardian, Huffington Post, and Vogue UK.
R2R empowers by being both a life and livelihood partner to the artisans through its Artisan Academy and Quality of Life Program, where the artisans hone their skills and get health and financial training. All of this is to fulfill their vision that one day, a Filipino born in poverty will not have to live in poverty.
