Guests and visitors are invited to hand in donated school supplies at the hotel; one of 16 Mövenpick properties participating in this campaign.
To mark the United Nations International Day of Charity on 5 September, Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu is inviting the public to make a charity donation to support education. ‘A Kilo of Kindness for a treat of ice cream’ is a campaign by Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts that involves 16 hotels in the Middle East and Asia. Guests and residents who donate at least a kilogramme of learning supplies such as books and school supplies, will receive a delicious ice cream as a ‘thank you’.
Last year 1,285 kg of charitable supplies were collected and the upscale hospitality company hopes that it can improve on that figure this year.
The donated items will be distributed by selected charity organisations or schools in their respective communities. Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu is supporting the Cordova Alternative Resource for Education (CARE) Center. Guests can handover their donations to the hotel staff at The Forum, from 21 August to 1 September 2016.
Through this campaign, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is drawing attention to the importance of supporting education as a charitable initiative. September is traditionally a time for students to return to school after the summer. Yet, for many children in disadvantaged communities, the educational materials required to optimise their learning, cannot always be counted on.
Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu is a five-star Mediterranean-inspired beachfront hotel in the Philippines located on a lush and tropical island, about 6 kilometres from the Mactan Cebu International Airport. The 245-room property offers a myriad of choices from accommodation, dining, wellness, leisure activities and venues for meetings and events. This hotel is, to date, the only establishment in the Philippines that carries the line of the Movenpick brand’s world-renowned collection of ice cream creations.
‘A Kilo of Kindness’ is part of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts’ global sustainability programme Shine, which aims to give back to the communities where the company operates properties. Shine’s practices are grouped around three pillars – Environment, Employer and Social Sustainability – with Education forming the common thread as a key focus.
