Iligan is and will probably be one of my most favorite places in the world because of its simplicity. Although it is considered a city, it also isn't the best place for fancy lounging;
but who needs the spectacular city-life when you have more than 20 beautiful waterfalls? Alone, I went to the City of Majestic Waterfalls twice on two separate occasions!
The rocky and revitalizing Mimbalot falls!
Of the three most popular waterfalls in Iligan, Tinago Falls is my ultimate favorite! I had to walk 400 steps just to get to this place. Talk about exercise! The water here is cold and soothing and fresh. Truly a hidden gem!
MARIA CRISTINA FALLS!!!
Of course I just had to include myself in the photo! Unlike the other waterfalls present in the city, swimming here is deadly.
Look how strong the current is in here
The Maria Cristina Plant is a powerful source of energy in Mindanao.
Sunsets by the beach
Iligan might not be able to provide the coveted five-star experience with its many resorts, but still they are worth visiting. The Dela Mar Resort has an olympic-sized swimming pool filled purely with fresh water! I read somewhere that they drain the entire pool during closing time, and fill it up again when they open the next day. Since springs and falls are everywhere in this place, that isn't a very hard thing to do. Imagine a chlorine-free pool! How organic!
