    Default AMD+ATI 3870 X2 [LOSE AGAINTS NVIDIA]

While making our way through various exhibits at CES, Dave and I got a chance to get hands on time with AMD's upcoming ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 graphics card. As we mentioned in our initial coverage of the ATI Radeon HD 3800 series back in November, the 3870 X2 is a dual-GPU powered card that leverages ATI's CrossFire technology. Here's an up close and personal look at the card...

We can't disclose any specifications just yet, but can say that the 3870 X2 has a pair of R670 GPUs on single PCB coupled together via a PCI Express fanout switch from PLX. Frame Buffer memory configurations are likely to be similar to existing Radeon HD 3870 cards - per GPU - but representatives from ATI informed us that board parters are likely to design cards with up to 2GB frame buffers. As for power and performance, once again, we can't give specifics for now. However, think less power than a 2900 XT with performance on par or better than a Radeon HD 3870 CrossFire configuration.

Diba ang 9800GX2 is just 2 ka 8800Gt on one board?

Given how the 3870 performs in Crossfire vs 8800GT SLI... Mas close fight siguro ni ang 3870 X2 vs the 9800GX2

GX2 still uses the same G92 core and the X2 still uses whatever core ATI calls it RV670 was it ?

9800GX2 is Nvidia's 2 card in each individual pcb ( 2 videocards ) connected to its other via SLI with one videocard had no PCI-E connector and the other had.

can configured to run in a QUAD for a total of 2GB of RAM.four cores. 512 stream processor..

nindot kau ni duwaan ug solitaire..

Geforce 9800 GX2 is going to end up faster than a single Radeon 3870 GX2. This comes as no surprise as Nvidia’s single G92 is faster than a single RV670 and in the same matter a dual chip Nvidia beats ATI.

Geforce 9800 GX2 will have a massive cooler in-between two PCBs. The cooler itself will have a two copper parts that will fit on the GPUs and it will be placed in the middle. The board needs two power connectors one 3x2 and one 4x2 and it will need about 200W. It will run very hot but we are sure it will be stable.

We said this back in 2007 but let us be clear on one thing. Nvidia’s upcoming high end sandwich board, Geforce 9800 GX2 is going to end up faster than a single Radeon 3870 GX2.

This comes as no surprise as Nvidia’s single G92 is faster than a single RV670 and in the same matter a dual chip Nvidia beats ATI.

Radeon 3870 X2 will be very competition as its single chip brother was but it is still a bit slower compared to Nvidia. We still believe hat Radeon 3870 X2 will have quite good sales as it will be significantly cooler than Nvidia’s card and it will be available in massive numbers
