Does it only happen with this game only?
Have you tried another card on the system just to test lang?
I've seen this VPU recovery thing from the same card we sold to a customer. Faulty jud ang video card. Hope your one is still under warranty.![]()
Generals and Generals Zero Hour campain were all completed with my ATI 9250 powercolor. 128MB 64bit.
No problems encountered so far.
Please have your card checked from where you bought it. or have it replaced if its still under warranty
Ya me too, (my neighbors PC Vcard is Powercolor Radeon 9250 128mb) so far so good even in generals at 1024x768 low setting in NFSu2 med setting in Genrals
i have 15 units with the same vcard and same problem...good for all of you who got it workin good.
by the way to those using the vcard then try download OMEGA driver for ATI since it somehow fix the problem
but really there are times that the system crach due to this VPU recovery.
thanks for your comments...
Try disabling the VPU recover.
Have you tried disabling Fast Write on the AGP port? You can either switch this thing off from the BIOS (if available) or from the SmartGear tab on the ATI Control Settings. Make sure lang you're using the latest Catalyst driver as well...
Anyway, here's a lil wee info bout VPU Recover strait from ATI.
Why is VPU Recover needed?
Hardware crashes may occur when a hardware device and the corresponding
software device driver are no longer able to communicate with each other. With
Visual Processing Units (VPUs), these crashes may occur when the graphics engine
stops responding to display driver commands. In the past, users would normally be
forced to reboot their computer, often resulting in lost work and productivity. VPU
Recover prevents many of these situations from happening and turn system reboots
into a last measure solution.
How does VPU Recover work?
VPU Recover enables the ATI display driver to detect when the graphics processor is
no longer able to respond to display driver commands. When this hang occurs, the
display driver will attempt to reset the graphics hardware, enabling users to continue
using the computer without interruption or lost work.
Depending on the current state of the system when VPU Recover is activated, open
applications may be able to fully recover from the graphics processor reset. In other
cases, running applications may be closed and the user will be returned to the
Windows desktop.
Should the computer be unable to fully recover from a crash, VPU Recover will switch
the system to software rendering mode, enabling users to save their work before
restarting the system. Under rare circumstances, the hardware hang may be severe
enough that the graphics processor will be unable to recover. In these cases, a system
reboot will still be required.
TM
When VPU Recover is activated, a dialog box will prompt users if they would like to
submit an automatically generated error report to ATI. This report helps ATI to
determine the cause of the hang and will lead to faster resolution of the issue,
resulting in a more stable driver. If users prefer not to be prompted to submit an
error report to ATI whenever the program is activated, this prompt may be disabled
on the VPU Recover control panel.
@akari: that is not a good resort bcos it will cause to unmanaged system hang-up which means you will have no resort but to press the restart button manually which you do not want either.
@obemon: I haven't tried this one but i will one of this days and express my observation to you.
With regards to statements from ATI, I know this is a bug from them and I have read some that they are now trying to work it out. They are right with VPU recovery but still it interupts the user and worst is this happen when you play games from which you yourself don't want to be interupted. As I said OMEGA driver for ATI is somewhat their fix but still they are trying to work out for a better one.
is this not a compatibility issue? hmmm...
@polie: whats your OS
are those units cloned?
