MANILA - The traffic situation in the Philippines is the 5th worst in the world, according to survey site Numbeo.com.
In its 2015 mid-year report, Numbeo said the Philippines had a traffic index of 201.31. The traffic index was measured based on the average time spent by a commuter to reach a destination, dissatisfaction, inefficiencies in the traffic system, and carbon dioxide emission.
The four countries said to have even worse traffic conditions than the Philippines were Egypt, South Africa, Thailand, and Iran.
Numbeo is an online database of user-contributed data about various topics such as traffic, pollution, crime, health care, and cost of living, among others.
According to the report, the Philippines had a time index of 46.09, meaning it took a commuter an average of 46.09 minutes to reach a destination.
The country had an inefficiency index, an estimation of inefficiencies in the traffic system, of 216.01.

Manila had a traffic index of 231.09, time index of 48.86, and inefficiency index of 234.22.

The traffic condition in Metro Manila has recently been worsening, and commuters and motorists have been complaining of congested roads, inefficient transport systems, and even calling for the resignation of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair Francis Tolentino.

Business groups are also fed up with the worsening traffic in the metropolis, saying it is taking toll not just on workers but also on companies.
President Benigno Aquino III, meanwhile, is asking for patience and understanding from the public, saying the government is doing everything it can to resolve the traffic woes.
