a proxy server is far more different from a pfsense server.

a proxy server 'may' act as a cache server so that all you have browsed so far will be stored locally in your local LAN.
very tricky to create unless you really know about its concepts. [most easy is pfsense + squid cache for me]

proxy server can be installed natively on your computer, separated as a dedicated machine or installed on a virtual environment, its up to you.

a pfsense server [a.k.a. le firewall] its main purpose is firewall [pass/block what is needed and such]
pfsense has QoS/limiter or whatever you call it. you can 'shape' the traffic to your needs.
the only bitter part of pfsense is that they don't have concrete details to such examples

am still learning pfsense slowly though. and I'll try to post it here if I have a solid proof on bandwidth separation.
