some points of evolution theory is agreeable but when you go deeper, it can be vaguely understood.
if we started in a single cell organism or the very latest micro organism that man has ever known has its composition also and so on and fort. that is why, scientists who gave up, became creationists because they can no longer explain the existence of it. And if they do, there should always be another question of origin.

i've read an article before regarding replication of a single cell, group of scientists completed the replication but failed to make the cell alive. - i stand corrected though. nalimot nku sa details ato.

evolution is not an explanation for the origin of life. it does not try to be. it never was designed to be. again, evolution is a device that explains how speciation occurred. if you recall, darwin's magnum opus was entitled: "on the origin of species", not on the "origin of life". the most accepted model today is abiogenesis, but that is for another discussion entirely.

regarding your assertion that evolution "remains" a theory, let me point out that a scientific theory is different from what you think it is. a scientific theory is basically an explanation of a scientific fact. a theory is valid as long as there is no evidence against it. so until you can find an accepted alternative to evolution, it remains the valid explanation for speciation.
