MANILA - Hong Kong lawmakers are taking it out on Filipino domestic workers after President Aquino failed to offer an apology for the Manila bus incident in 2010.
"It is quite unfortunate that our compatriots are being used by a HK lawmaker," said Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.
Lawmaker Albert Chan Wai-yip is supported by Ray Chan Chi-chuen in pursuing the bill which is composed of three stages. The first stage would involve a stop to the issuance of visas for domestic workers, followed by a halt in the renewals of existing contracts, and lastly, to put a ban on all Filipinos traveling to Hong Kong.
The move was in reaction to President Aquino's refusal to offer an apology for the bus tragedy that claimed the lives of eight Hong Kong tourists in Manila.
