GMANews.TV - Saturday, January 10MANILA, Philippines - The ban on the direct hiring of Filipino household service workers (HSW) for Hong Kong is now in effect, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in the former British crown colony said.
In an announcement posted on the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong website, the POLO said the ban took effect on January 1.
POLO will no longer process documents of name-hires in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Code, as amended and Philippine Overseas Employment Administration Circular No. 44, series of 1996, said the annoucement.
It said those who may be recommended to be exempted from the ban on direct hiring of HSWs will be limited only to employers covered under the following categories:
• Members of the diplomatic corps; • Members of international organizations; • Immediate members of the family of heads of state/government; • Ministers, deputy ministers, and other senior officials of the host country; and • Employers residing in countries where foreign agencies do not operate.- Kimberly Jane T.
