Default If I build a CPU with a PSU included, Do I need a AVR?

I'm new to the PC hardware world and I'm planning to build my own cpu. Don't the AVR and Power supply in the CPU case work the same? Why do Internet cafe's and that annoying thing sitting on top of the case?

it depends really, AVRs are usually there to help regulate the voltage going into the CPU.. You can skip the AVR if your location is not prone to power outages or fluctuations.. you can also skip the AVR if you have a high rated Power supply, personally i don't us an AVR, I have a Silverstone 80+ bronze PSU and I live in a Condo so the Power is fairly regulated..

to know if your location has power problems, just look at your lights in the evening.. during peak hours if your lights will flicker, thats an indication that your power is problematic.. if it is, then buy an AVR.. Buy the servo type AVR.. not the cheap ones..
then if you have extra budget, skip the AVR and go buy a UPS..

    No they have different functions.

    To simplify it:

    Power Supply: ESSENTIAL
    AVR: OPTIONAL
    UPS: OPTIONAL

dili need ang AVR if naay voltage regulator imong UPS..

no avr and power supply are two different things..
power supply plainly provides the exact power needed on all components inside your system unit, while AVR just regulate voltage going to your power supply. so dli jud needed ang avr this is just additional protection incase naay power issues, i would recommend gettinga avr though if generic power supply imng paliton, but if branded power supply imng paliton then no need to buy avr.

Ato ning bisayaon ha aron klaro:

Sa pagka tinood bai necessary jud ang AVR kay mao manay mo hatag ug sakto na voltage if you're in 220V mao nay mo supply ug consistent volts for your power requirements. Also dapat ang AVR for fluctuation of voltage ug mag high/low aron di madaut imong PC.

Ang PSU or Power supply lahi na cya ug function sa AVR. Ang PSU mao nay nihatag or ni supply ug power for each of your CPU's components like HDD, FANS, MOBO, RAMS etc...and has connectors like 4 pins, 6pins and SATA power etc...

Ako karon guba akong UPS so wala pud koy AVR. Pero I'm using a reliable and true rated PSU with 80 Plus silver medyo peace of mind ko than using generic psu.

Pero dapat mag AVR ka or better UPS + AVR that would be much better and safer.

Dili kinahanglan ang avr. Good quality autovolt power supplies have better input regulation than 300 peso AVRs. Dungan ra na sa konsumo. Tuo pa ko kung kanang nga mahalon nga avr.

If I have a 6k psu, I would not even dare use an average avr on it.

SAKTO SAKTO! for safety jud. Need ang AVR maski naa paka nindot na PSU. Ang AVR maoy mo hatag ug sakto na load or consistent na kuryente sa imong pc maski mag fluctuate pana or low/high voltage inyong area, di raba nato mahibaw-an.

there was a client of mine, his PSU is a Silverstone 600w power supply and his AVR is the cheapo one bought like 350pesos. After a while, the AVR burst into flames so always think of buying quality and rationale of having an AVR. The PSU cannot handle more than 240v of current well.
