On the night of February 18, 2013, a father was arrested by local police officers at 8:30 pm or thereabouts. Their family was in middle of what looked to be a normal evening: Badidi was having dinner with his father, while the rest of the family was watching a telenovela on TV, when suddenly the police barged in their house, ransacked the place looking for evidence against his father, Lodgerio Labra. According to the police, he is accused of Jai Alai related activities. The “evidence” confiscated from their house was a non-functional, two-decade old, .22 caliber air soft gun which has been on display since Badz’ childhood. Mr. Labra was taken to the Cebu City Police Office along Gorordo Ave.
This was a warrantless arrest made by Team 2 of the CIB division of CCPO headed by PNSP William Alicaba. This information was culled from the blotter and the short inquiry we had with the police officer in charge at around 11pm. According to him, Team 2 had stepped out after detaining Mr. Labra.
The arresting officers committed the following offenses:
they were asked for a search or an arrest warrant, neither of which they would not or could not provide.
No introductions were made: no names, no designations, no police station before the arrest, no reason for the raid, nor did they recite the Miranda Rights
Brandishing of their guns without papers exempting them from the gun ban
Damage to property and trespassing
