MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections on Tuesday chided the group Pasang Masda for naming lawyer Ferdinand Topacio as one of its party-list nominees.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said Topacio cannot represent Pasang Masda, a group of jeepney drivers, since he is not a driver. He is also closely identified with former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
“Si Attorney Topacio ba driver? Di ba abogado yan ni GMA?” Brillantes asked.
But Pasang Masda’s Roberto Martin claims Topacio is a jeepney operator.
He said if Topacio was the problem, the Comelec should have told the group to change its nominee instead of disqualifying the group.
Pasang Masda will appeal its disqualification before the Supreme Court.

Prone to abuse, same thing as the anti-dynasty law. RA 7941 is unclear LOL. Loopholes tend to become party list nominees who are not marginalized and under represented.
