Laptop suddenly freezes then shuts down. Help?

I've had this Compaq laptop for quite a while now. It's been working normally for the time it's been in my possession but just the other night, just suddenly it BSODed. I've had several BSODs before so this wasn't much of a shock. The problem is, every time I boot it back on... yeah it works for around 2 minutes then suddenly the cursor stops moving. The entire laptop freezes. I can't do anything. Then the screen goes black and the laptop shuts down. It sucks cause I can't do anything about it and I can't use it anymore. What should I do?

Reformatting isn't an option since I don't have the CDs to reformat yet. Is there anything I can do to at least check what's wrong?

Nope. Dili jud siya overheat bai. I have this other laptop that also shuts down because of overheating but I got that fixed. The difference is that, in the overheating laptop, it's a sudden shut down. This one freezes then shuts down.

Also, the overheating laptop never BSODed.

he's right ^^^ do you have laptop cooler? if wala, then you should buy immediately ky overheating na..! if problem occurs again after buying and putting that stuff...then better reformat your system...

common issue, motherboard overheated chipset. specially sa vga chipset. kung mo hang ang imong lappy. but BSOD common issue would be the ram/memory chip.
