Clinton aide shouts at VP Binay, apologizes

MANILA, Philippines - A female staff member from the Clinton Foundation shouted at Vice-President Jejomar Binay and asked him to leave a VIP area where former US President Bill Clinton was staying before his speech at the Manila Hotel.

Binay said he was shooed away by the staffer from the VIP holding area where Clinton would wait before speaking at the Manila Hotel forum entitled "Embracing Our Common Humanity."

"Sabi ko lang (I said) you're ordering us to leave the room, but don't shout. You know I happen to be the Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines," the vice president recounted saying to the female staffer.

Binay said that he obediently exited the VIP room and that the female staffer immediately apologized to him.

"Sabi ko OK lang. Kailangan titindig tayo at punahin iyon (I told her it was OK. We should stand up and call their attention to their mistakes also)," the vice president added.

He added that Filipinos should always hold their heads high especially when they are being mocked and disrespected. "Sana lagi taas noo tayo kapag tayo minamata o hindi ginagalang," he said.

A staff member from the Office of the Vice President said that they will write a letter to the Clinton Foundation to seek clarification on the incident.

The staff said they made arrangements with the US Secret Service for the presence of Binay at the event.

The Clinton Foundation staff member who shouted at the Vice-President said she was not informed by the US Secret Service about the arrangements made for Binay.

Hours after Vice President Jejomar Binay narrated on Wednesday how he was rudely treated by an aide of former US President William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton, the country's second highest official received a birthday greeting Thursday evening from the US Embassy in Manila.

As if to make up for the Clinton aide's faux pas, the US Embassy issued the greeting to Binay on its Facebook page past 8 p.m. Manila time.

"Happy Birthday to the Vice President of the Philippines, Jejomar Binay!" the embassy's greeting read.

Earlier Thursday, radio dzBB's Nimfa Ravelo reported Binay’s narration of how a female aide of Clinton shouted at him and asked him to leave a VIP area at The Manila Hotel.

Binay, who was part of the welcoming party and had been cleared by the US Secret Service, complied but said there was no need to shout at him, and introduced himself as the Philippines' Vice President.

The aide, a staff of the Clinton Foundation, later apologized.

Interestingly, Binay is a fraternity brother of Clinton. Binay is a member of Alpha Phi Omega, which is affiliated with Clinton's Mu Alpha.—JV, GMANews.TV

by the way you guys reacted you are no different from that person... americans are strict in terms of security to their diplomats... the mistake is purely mis-communication... you guys simply jump to conclusions without understanding the whole incident, it is even available on the news article...

arrogant as they is (according to you) but i pretty sure you still use all the things made from that arrogant country...

truly is hypocrisy is still a cancer of our society..

i dont side with the americans or binay... i dont like people who jumps into conclusion...

Giving an award for shouting at a dignitary especially the VP of the host country? Wow that sounds ethical to the highest level!

Tinuod sir trabaho lang walang personalan.. But for being rude to dignitaries especially in that situation nga naa sila sa VIP room is plainly unacceptable..

puyde maneh ma lalis gud... unsa man nga klaseha pagka shout? shout lang para ma kuha ang attention ni binay nga sya iyang bo-ot pasabot nga pagawason kay wala kaila ang staff nga vice president sya sa philppines or gi syagitan sya nga hoy lagum potot gawas kay wa ko kaila nimo..
