Thread: Subnet and DHCP

    Default Subnet and DHCP

Naglibog ko kung e-change ba nimo imo subnet to /23 para nana ka 510 hosts OR mag add ka ug subnet, kung mag add ka, unsa man pud nga subnet?

Any explanations will be much appreciated... Hoi mga CCNA dha.. hehehe

Based on the responses I got from another forum, there are 3 potential solutions for this:

    1) Segment the existing /24 network into multiple VLANs which is a better solution but more work.

    2) Move to a /23 subnet which will give you 510 hosts but will cause broadcast traffic.

    3) Setup another subnet which require another router and all devices on the new subnet must be connected to the same switch and that switch must be connected to a port on the router. (Considering your organization is NOT using VLANs)

Hoie mga CCNA dha, you're supposed to answer my question.. hehehehe.. i'll stand corrected IF i'm wrong.

Speechless ang mga CCNA kay wa motubag.. wa mo kasuway nahutdan ug IP inyo DHCP server sah? heheheh.. tingog xad mo oie.. I'm only familiar with Microsoft server..

Best solution: to segment your existing network into multiple vlans according to projected devices/users..

Is your dhcp running on the cisco router or on a Box? Be resourceful try to recreate in a lab.
Ask teledata personnel. I believe they know more and I also believe its there responsibility.

bai are you using a router box for your dhcp server or you use a Microsoft widows server as the dhcp server? also, do you use/have an L3 switch? kay if you do, you can use that for creating vlans.

But then, depende man sad gud na what kind of traffic do you have in your LAN.
Kay kun puro ra na cla gamit excel/word processing stuff and a few printing jobs here and there, then you can just make use of the simple /23 nmask approach. doubt you will notice a big difference unless heavy ka sa database and other client-server applications.

this is just a network design...
    -check your LAN wire speed?
    -applications running on LAN?
-broadcast limitations, want to segment some networks?
-are your hardwares capable of vlan or layer3 functions?
    -ip addressing scheme?

Ang problema kung imong isegment to VLANs/subnets kay makwaan ug mogamay man ang imo usable hosts. So, unless ga NAT ka kda VLAN para pwede nmo marecycle ang IPs, mas maau ang mo add ka ug another /24, kung naa pa, or i-/23 nmo imo main network, kung pwede, then isubnet nmo per host requirements to lessen ang broadcast traffic..
