i used a konica flash as my slave - the flash is from an old film konica camera. didn't break my d90.

i think you should try couple of shots - if it doesn't work then don't use it. if it works then use it.

I won't recommend testing old flashes. You should ask someone more qualified. This thread is about Canon DSLR and risks when using old flashes. Flickr: Discussing Damage to Canon DSLRs from old flashes? [old thread] in Strobist.com

Although the subject is about Canon, the entire thread covers both Nikon and Canon. Read it to know the potential risks. If that flash is still fully functional, you will end up either having a manual flash for your Nikon D90, or a dead Nikon D90 because the flash busted your camera.

I once have a suntax 928AF, the trigger voltage is safe as I asked directly the suplier pero dili ma adjust ang power so I switch to Canon flashes aron ma isa.

Here is a list of trigger voltage of the flashes you may want to use:
    TRIGGER VOLTAGE LIST

wala dinha ang suntax, pero para safe try to email ang support sa suntax na webpage, Suntax - Contract Manufacturer and Photography about sa trigger voltage...pero the best thing you can do with that flash is to use it as off cam, dili na ma trigger ug PT-04, just use the light sensors.

    hope that helps.
