    Default DLSU president is new DepEd chief

    MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle University president and chancellor Brother Armin Luistro has accepted the post of education secretary of incoming President Benigno Aquino III.
    A statement released by De La Salle on Wednesday said Luistro arrived at the decision after consulting with the university's stakeholders.
    "After due consultation with various stakeholders in the Lasallian community, President and Chancellor Br. Armin Luistro FSC has accepted the invitation of President-elect Benigno C. Aquino III to be the Department of Education Secretary," the statement read,
    Luistro is among those who called for President Arroyo's resignation in 2005 after she was accused of rigging the 2004 presidential election.
    Incoming Executive Secretary Jojo Ochoa earlier said the entire Aquino Cabinet will be known before the weekend.
    Among those widely believed to have already been chosen are:

    • Aquino campaign manager Florencio "Butch" Abad as budget secretary;
    • Makati Business Club president Alberto Lim as tourism secretary;
    • Leila de Lima as justice secretary;
    • President Cory Aquino’s former Presidential Security Guard chief Voltaire Gazmin as defense secretary;
    • Cesar Purisima as finance secretary;
    • Guillermo Parayno as Bureau of Customs chief;
    • Kim Henares as Bureau of Internal Revenue commissioner;
    • former Nestle CEO Johnny Santos as Philippine ambassador to the US;
    • Manila Water Corp.'s Jose Rene Almendras as energy secretary; and,
    • Jaime Aristotle Alip as agriculture secretary.

    Aquino is also expected to retain Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo for a year, while Horacio Ramos and Greg Domingo are expected to be one-year benchwarmers in the environment and trade departments.
    Aquino's running mate, Sen. Mar Roxas, and former Bukidnon Rep. Nereus Acosta are expected to take over the two positions once the one-year appointment ban on losing election candidates lapses.
    A source in the Aquino camp, meanwhile said Aquino is eyeing Maynilad Water Services president Rogelio "Babes" L. Singson as secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways and former Health Secretary Jaime Galvez Tan as secretary of the Department of Health. Report from ANC

    Noynoy is not the uto uto people thought he would be.

    Kana iya tanan cabinet members are people he chose personally unlike presidents before who made political concessions.

    His cabinet so far has no Peping Cojuangco endorsed individual. Binay? haha MMDA outfit ra ang gi offer. Which makes it more unlikely for Tomas to get appointed to the cabinet. Mas dako pa chance si Junjun Davide because from the looks of it Noynoy first and foremost will pick people he trusts personally. His cabinet is made up mostly of classmates, former Cory loyalists (kadto mga tarong ug ngalang by the way), and personal confidants and friends. The rest are people whose integrity are beyond question like De Lima and Robredo.

    hope the new deped secretary will impose new reforms in our education system...we are way far behind our asian counterparts...dapat mao ni ato tutukan aside from corruption and health issues...ky i think one of the best resource our country has is human resource and 1 way of providing good resource is improving our education system...

    naa gyud corrupt aning deped and this should be stopped all at once..luoy kau intawn atong mga kabataan wla gyud quality ang education provided by the government...im a product of public school before i can say is that we're more privilidged to have books per subject per student...but now 1 book is shared by up to 5 students...as nman ang kwarta?

    1 thing that i dont like is that teachers themselves teach students to cheat during achievement test...selfish ra kau ang mga teachers coz if mau ang results sa exam mrelfect man sa performance sa skul and especially sa tescher...so promotion dayun...and in that way poisoning innocent minds...hahay...this has been a tradition but thi should be stopped all at once

    Luistro will do a good job i think, i mean he is the DSLU president, kung dili pa siya ganahan ug added pressure wala unta siya modawat, but i think he is sincerely interested our in improving our country's education
