Default Beams collide, LHC opens up new chapter in physics

(CNN) -- Scientists at the Large Hadron Collider managed to make two proton beams collide at high energy Tuesday, marking a "new territory" in physics, according to CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

The $10 billion research tool has been accelerating the beams since November in the LHC's 17-mile tunnel on the border of Switzerland and France.

The beams have routinely been circulating at 3.5 TeV, or teraelectron volts, the highest energy achieved at the LHC so far, according to CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

Very interesting latest development at the LHC.

Curious correlations seen by CMS - physicsworld.com

Latest data suggests that collisions of highly energetic protons may form quark–gluon plasma which is not supposed to be expected. This could be because of new interactions from new particles yet to be discovered. Hopefully, the Higgs Boson!

Protons speed 1/3 of light … WOW kosoga gud ani

    BTW,

Im no expert but what im certain of.. that they wouldnt be experimenting if the facts were

Known.. perhaps they are almost certain the black holes will evaporate but even if the

Revolver they are playing with has many of chambers only 1 of which is filled do we want

to be playing russian roulette with the planet and our existence just for haste in obtaining

knowledge and the glory of a few scientists in being the first?

Believe me, the chances that a black hole will form and suck our planet into nothingness is in very good approximation ZERO. I don't specialize in particle physics directly but I know whole heartedly that this won't happen. Think of it this way, if a black hole forms, it will need all the mass of our solar system to be devastating enough. Right? So black holes do form but they are microblack-holes that just vanish into nothingness for a fraction of a nanosecond. hehehe!

I just hope the people involved in this super big project have risk

measurement in place.. I really dont wanna wake up 1 day and find that

half the EARTH is gone!! and i am staring into outer space !! LOL

this can be quite scary actually

Very interesting update indeed. There will be more results coming as CERN scientists improve collission rates.
