    Default About Upstream (specifically PLDT)

Hello guys, just wanna ask something about upstream. Is there a plan or an upgrade available for us to have a bigger upstream? I have a little server box here on a residential plan, I use my server box mainly for testing my databases and codes and I could really have some nice upstream because I may be traveling somewhere (remote access, ftp, stuff).

While researching around, I have read that some ISPs outside this country has some policies about using your upstream. Lets say my upstream has been 100% utilized for weeks or days, would PLDT care? Because sometimes I also use my server box to host some games to let my friends play on it (for low ping advantage) and I would really like to know if I am breaking any of PLDT's ToS.

Last but not the least, why do we have a really low upstream in this country?

PLDT wouldn't care about your upstream/downstream bandwidth usage. We are just lucky that we have unlimited usage of bandwidth here in the Philippines

We have low upstream because we are using ADSL technology. It's Asymmetrical which means that download and upload speed are not equal. Since most users need higher download speed than upload, we have low upload speed

We just have to wait for LTE technology. Smart conducted LTE trial last Nov 29. Globe announced their plan for LTE trial in the 1st half of 2010. It's peak speed is at 340Mpbs

PLDT DSL upstream may vary according to subscribed plan. u can use it all the time it's urs, it's part of what uv paid. kaso lang adsl tech have 800kbps actual max upstream for legacy DSL equipments while it'll be over 1Mbps for ngn systems, sa best package na of subcsription.

PLDT should have a user agreement that you signed before they gave you service. Usually you aren't allowed to host servers but if it's for private use, most ISPs will ignore you.

We're currently hosting our very own 12-simulator (all on one server) 3D virtual world right here in Cebu, using the 4k PLDT Bizplan (3.5mpbs w/ 0.7mbps upstream). Even with ADSL, people from around the world who have logged into our grid haven't complained much about speed of access, but then most likely, once we get more content into the sims, and more avatars get in, perhaps that's the time we'll experience complaints of slow/laggy performance.

The upstream is about 10% of the downstream, which is in my opinion too slow. Should adsl not provide a downstream 50% of the upstream, and sdsl both the same?
People like me, who update daily projects, and have to transfer huge amounts of data, spend a lot of time to do this because of the slow upstream. Not everybody is downloading, there are also people who need to upload on a daily basis, and its a real pain...

Yep, this is actually what I am concerned at because I didn't read the TL;DR ToS so I would know if I should stop hosting games. I wasn't really expecting I would come into a point that I will definitely need a higher upstream because of my new job (and a new hobby on hosting games).

I think I'm fine with the private use. I don't earn anything from hosting a game for my friends anyways.

@rodsky - how much users are connected to your servers in normal times anyways?

@softtouch - I share the same pain man. This sucks bigtime.

Our grid is still pretty much in alpha state, so yes, not more than 6 people logged in at one time. But each sim supports up to 20 users, and for our torture test, we're planning to haul in 20 users per sim x 12 = 240 avatars. I'm pretty sure it will grind to a halt XD
