    Default Tañon Strait Dolphins

I was volunteering for a friend, a professor at
    UP Dilliman's Environtment Science doing a it's
annual dolphin survey in Tañon Strait, the body
of water between Cebu and Negros

for the lucky person I am (luckier if I can affor a 500mm zoom), still I can feel the
tease of these creatures' annoying and frustrating
habits (to us fotographers) of leaping or doing action
while our cameras are pointed at the opposite direction.

nevertheless, I made some lucky snaps braving through harsh glare (for cameras too)
possible heatstroke, bad sunburn or tan in the wrong areas
of the body. or worst... running out of batteries or
memory card. haha!! you though I was gonna say
    shipwreck. hehe

    well...here's a few

taken just an arms lenght below the bow of our motorized outrigger the
MV BCA Dolpsin II. we where lucky enough to have glassy, crystalline waters
that time so I didn't let the moment go to waste

one of nature's most intimate and delicate moments
we're so privelege they found solace underneath our vessel...
and did their thing. wild and wet..heheh Tañon Strait scandal.

a calf breaks into a frolic while mommy swims close by

I gotta get me a 500mm zoom lens for christmas...grrrrr!!!

taken on Oly E510, 40-150mm zuiko kit lens. and god bless CPL manufacturers...wohoo!!!

Let's help conserve our dolphins and protect our oceans

every photogrpaher should do their share in protecting
these creatures as these are one of photography's
    great subjects. cheers!!

    OLY or nothing!!!

Great shot you have there, mate! Man, i missed my Oly E510.
But on the consolation i got me a better rig, the Oly E620, hehehe...

Why don't you go for the more versatile Zuiko 70-300mm primes?

    @moz_k2

naka base mi sa bais strait an hours' drive from dumaguete negros
pero we roam around to where the dolphins congregate most depending on species
we went as far as barili to the north

this is an annual survey.. that time nga wala ko maka kuyog sa last week of the survey
diri unta ko nga thread mangita para puli sa ako spot. basta lang u can stand the heat under the sun the whole day sa dagat pwede naka. and also maka capture ka highquality dorsal fin shots para sa dolphin ID to be uploaded sa database for future references

and purpose gyud sa survey are just the dorsal fins. bonus nalang na uban shots

    @herp_doctor

    tnx bro

I will always go for a better gear. who doesnt? thing is.....MONEY!!!
then i would go for the E3 and it's ruggedness---splash proof and all
for me now I'm still happy with what i have. but still I'm having my eyes fix on the sigma 50-500mm a really cheap (thought not cheap.hehe) alternative to other brands.

    tnx

    yah thats true
pero sa case sa bais city specifically sa ecotouristm naa sila delimma kay daghan na kaau private sectors making money from there dolphin watching business and not having the idea nga naa proper protocols on how to approach these creatures
ang ilaha is if maka spot, ila dayon gukoron mura hot pursuit which is intrusive
kay sa ka daghan na nag negosyo ug dolphin trip and dili na regulated resulta is
ang mga dolphins ma harrassed na hinuon.
which could lead nga dako kaayo chance mag dimenished ang dolphin population
either from migrating permanently out of the territory or slow na ila reproductive instincts

kami, among boat with the good and professional guidance of a professor of UP Dilliman's Marine Environtment Dept. hinay hinay amo approach--if dili sila paduol dili namo pugson or gukoron and ang advantage namu kay keen pud kaayo ang dolphin on asa ang boat nga anad na sila. so wala probs namu kay sila muduol. nag ****** pa gani sa bottom sa amu boat as captured sa ako pics.heheh

sorry kaayp if I sounded preachy I just can't help but promote my advocacy for their protection

    tips lang on dolphin trips
choose a good dolhpin boat w/ a good skipper or timunil dili katong bara2x lang
I recommend the goverment owned and certified Dolphin II and Dolphin I (under repairs)
kay anad na ang dolphins sa sound sa engine and sa maneuvering ka mau ni amu gamit every summer for surveys.

    cheers!!
