Her new album Amanda Leigh is written by Mandy Moore and Mike Viola (you might know him as the voice behind Adam Schlesinger's That Thing You Do from that movie in 2005 under the moniker The Wonders).

i like Mandy's new direction now. It all started with her cover album Coverage until she was dropped by SONY and picked by FIRM MUSIC(EMI outside the U.S) for the album Wild Hope. Now she's on an indie label. i just wish EMI or SONY INTERNATIONAL would pick up the CD so it will be released here.

According to Moore, the CD, like Wild Hope, is a reflection of who she is, not somebody else's choices as those in her SONY bubblegum pop days...

the new album also features one song co-written by the great Lori McKenna.

And yes the fact that Mandy is now being played at americana and alt.country radio and several indie rock/ alternative station means she really is now recognized as an artist (especially Scott Register dig her!)

Bro, I was able to sample this album in HMV. The album definitely has some country vibe into it, the second track you mentioned "Merrimack River" is definitely country, sa violin pa lang daan. Another track worth listening to this album is "Bug" and "Everblue", as far as the whole album is concerned, I can only rate it good. I just feel like basin na alienate niya iya mga fans kay dako kaayo kausaban sa direction of her music.

As for the other pop/rock artist making a move to country/crossovers:
1) Jessica Simpson - ayaw nalang, her album was crap, she should stick to pop
2) Jewel -> ok ra, nothing spectacular
3) Darius Rucker -> The best!

naa daw upcoming new album ang hootie... i dunno if its true. i read that somewhere
