Lightning kills teenager in Batangas

LIPA CITY, Philippines – A 17-year-old boy was killed Wednesday night while his companion was injured after being hit by lightning in the southern Luzon province of Batangas.

P02 Herald Medrano, Talisay police investigator, identified the lone fatality as Michael Castilejo, a fish cage caretaker and resident of Barangay Poblacion in Talisay town.

Medrano said Castilejo died on the spot, while the other victim, Leo Argones, 25, is now confined at the St. Andrew’s Hospital.

Initial reports said that at about 6:30 pm, the victims were busy taking care of tilapia fishes in their fish cages in Taal Lake when the lightning struck them.

Lightning strike kills boy tending cows in Iloilo

MANILA, Philippines - A 16-year-old boy in a grazing land was killed after lightning struck him in Iloilo province, a radio report said early Thursday.

Visayas-based Bombo Radyo reported that John Mart Lastimuso died instantly after being struck at Damires village in New Lucena town in Iloilo.

Investigation showed the victim was in the middle of the pasture tending cows when lightning struck him.

The victim sustained burns throughout his body and was declared dead on arrival at the New Lucena Polytechnic Hospital.

Lastimuso was the second casualty of a lightning strike this week in Iloilo, the report said. - GMANews.TV
