simple analogy ana as what akoa nasabtan
bisag asa ana nila ganged or unganged dual channel mode gihapon na sila
ang nakalahi lang is ang ganged mo act na siya as 2x64 bit nga dual channel config ang unganged is 1x128 bit dual channel config niya
mo deal sad na siya sa cpu cores
kani if wala ko masayop hahahaha
ang gang mode is good for kana single threaded apps niya ang ungang pang multi threaded daw
equivalent ani is kana sa nvidia nga lock og unlock memory config
ako sad wa ko kabalo ana pero i understand how dual channel works:
a memory when used as single channel connects 64 wires on the motherboard (physical jud, not a typo). each wire is equivalent to 1-bit hence the 64-bit memory all available in the market today. when operated in dual channel mode, the 2 64-bit data bandwidth is joined together totalling 128-bit where theoretically, it theoretically doubles the bandwidth for the data to go through. better explained by hardware secrets through this pic:
kung mao na definition sa gang ug unganged mode, does it mean that going ganged is that the memory is dynamic and can act as 1 x 64-bit which means the unganged mode is the native dual channel?
In laymans terms, mas dako ang dalan, imbis two lanes, nahimu ug four lanes![]()
^ tuara nindot nga explanation -- four lanes diay nga dual channel ang ganged! pero medyo gamay nga dalan no?

murag mao na siya daghan ang dalan pero gamay where as ang ungang isa pero dako
so sakto ba to akoa gisulti na ang gang mode good for single threaded apps? then ang ungang good for multi thread apps?
^ mura bali bai. kadto siguro ganged mode ang multithreaded apps tapos ang single thread mao na ang unganged. paet ba aning kulang ug experience sa AMD uy.![]()
Lets try to put some figures para dali ma gets
Sandra Multi-threaded, Ganged Mode = 12.46GB/s:
![]()
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sandra Multi-THreaded, Unganged Mode = 13.45GB/s:
![]()
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everest Single-Threaded, Ganged Mode = 9.32GB/s:
![]()
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everest single-threaded, Unganged Mode = 8.53GB/s
![]()
So we get the following:
Single-threaded Ganged = 9.32GB/s
Multi-threaded Ganged = 12.46GB/s
Single-threaded Unganged = 8.53GB/s
Multi-threaded Unganged = 13.45GB/s
yep, mao sad ni ako sabtan, 2x64 and 1x128, which is actually almost equal. pero if multitask ka, u better go with 2x64 kay a single app can use a single 64bit lane, and so is the other. a single 1x128bit favors t single task, single thread app on the other hand..
though as always, libog jud sabton AMD, hehehe.
i dont know if this relates to having memory controller sa procie. i dont even know if pude ba ma-override...
@ moz_k2: salamat kaayo sa benchmarks bro. it proved a point.![]()
