    Exclamation E8400 and P-35 Neo

    Hello hardware gurus.

I have recently purchased a slightly used Intel E8400 from one of our good sellers here in iSTORYA.

Before I explain the situation, here's the setup before my purchase:

    CPU: Intel E4500 @ 2.2Ghz
MOBO: MSI P-35 Neo with BIOS ver 1.0

    RAM: 3Ghz (3 x 1Gb Kingston PC-800)
    PSU: A new Imaster 600W

After I installed the E8400, my pc restarts at random times. What I did to make the system stable was to reset my BIOS and CMOS and decrease the multiplier to 8 so I'm at 2.66Ghz. BUT I BOUGHT THAT CPU SO I'D BE AT 3.0GHz!

According to Master BeoR and a good friend of mine, I just need to flash the BIOS because the MOBO was made for a 65nm chip and the E8400 is a 45nm chip. Also, Master BeoR has a hunch that it might be the PSU. They also gave me some info about the memory timing and if I'd flash the BIOS, my MOBO would recognize the 45nm chip and all its goodies...and so I did.

Now, my BIOS version is already updated at 1.10. Woohoo!!! I got into the BIOS and there she is -- 3.00Ghz of speed with a multiplier back to 9.

I ran Prime95 to check if it's gonna shut down and guess what? It did shut down. ALL I DID WAS UTTER FAIL. Currently, I'm back to 2.66Ghz again.

    Any HELPFUL advices?

    Hi!

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't tried that yet. I ALMOST got myself a Silverstone 750W but the seller backed out for some reason. But that's another story.

Anyway, I will try that on another PSU and I'll update here if I do so.

Meanwhile, any more additional info would be greatly appreciated.

try to increase the voltage of your cpu.

how about the temps of your CPU? usually if it reaches the maximum temp allowed, the system will restart....

try to test on a different PSU ja...

check your operating temps...paki check sad imong automatic shutdown sa BIOS, basin ubos ra kaayo. i'll cite mine as an example...although dili directly related kay ga overclock man ko but still...

the computer would shutdown on the middle of stress-testing with prime95, i tried upping all the voltages to no avail but upon close examination with the BIOS, it turns out nga tungod ra sa low treshold for thermal shutdown setting sa mobo which was set at 60C, of course during stress testing the CPU Temp (Not the Core Temp) would report higher than this which is why mapalong ang computer inig start ug stress-testing.

have a look at your automatic shutdown at certain temperature na setting.

    hope that helps.

true. prime95 is a known cpu killer. if u wont control down imong temps, u will certainly go on shut down. this is a BIOS setting issue, if u may post imong advance BIOS interface nga related sa temperature and system monitoring k basin makatudlo ang uban diri which one to adjust...

    PSU! PSU! PSU!

If you wanna make sure, bring you PC over to our place and we'll test it with Jonn's old PSU or if that doesn't work his new PSU or my PSU.
