Hello hardware gurus.
I have recently purchased a slightly used Intel E8400 from one of our good sellers here in iSTORYA.
Before I explain the situation, here's the
setup before my purchase:
CPU: Intel E4500 @ 2.2Ghz
MOBO: MSI P-35 Neo with BIOS ver 1.0
RAM: 3Ghz (3 x 1Gb Kingston PC-800)
PSU: A new Imaster 600W
After I installed the E8400, my pc restarts at random times. What I did to make the system stable was to reset my BIOS and CMOS and decrease the multiplier to 8 so I'm at 2.66Ghz. BUT I BOUGHT THAT CPU SO I'D BE AT 3.0GHz!
According to
Master BeoR and a good friend of mine, I just need to flash the BIOS because the MOBO was made for a 65nm chip and the E8400 is a 45nm chip. Also,
Master BeoR has a hunch that it might be the PSU. They also gave me some info about the memory timing and if I'd flash the BIOS, my MOBO would recognize the 45nm chip and all its goodies...and so I did.
Now, my BIOS version is already updated at 1.10. Woohoo!!! I got into the BIOS and there she is -- 3.00Ghz of speed with a multiplier back to 9.
I ran Prime95 to check if it's gonna shut down and guess what?
It did shut down. ALL I DID WAS UTTER FAIL.

Currently, I'm back to 2.66Ghz again.
Any HELPFUL advices?
