Default AMD64 Athlon 3000+ Heat waves...

    Bro,

I have an Athlon64 3000+ s939 and an Epox 9NPA3 Ultra mobo... I have Geil 2x512MB RAM and GF6600 vga card... Now what really bothers me s the fact that My CPU temp is going up to 47~49C during idle time and up to 56~60C during gaming...

I have read in a separate thread that A64's are much cooler than XP's... Im really worried coz my fan speed goeas up to 5500RPM!!!

By the way Im on stock HSF and Heatsink and I dont know if I need to place a thermal compound to my cpu coz as far as I have seen during its setup they did not put anything...

I have here an HTC (Heat Transfer Compound) that I got from work... Can I use this coz we use it here and place it on heatsinks to our products...

    Please give me some idea...
    Is this normal? TY!

IIRC, stock fans dont reach 5,500 RPM well atleast my stock fan on my 3700 doesnt even get to 3,500 its better if you check your thermal compound bro, the generic silicon will do but if you want a better performance and quality for your TIM then put an Artic Silver 5 on it. then ive also noticed that my idle temps really went up for about 2~3 deg karong summer. also your CPU temp is affected by the ventilation of your case

    - try to reseat the HSF firmly
    - if possible, apply arctic silver 5
    - check the airflow of ur casing (intake and exhaust)

Stock HSF for the A64 now, comes with the Thermal Paste already attached to the HS. 5K RPM for the Stock Fan is normal. We have to consider also the Temp outside of the rig. It really does matter a lot. But if you're system is fine and works well without hangups then its ok. Temp for an AMD CPU especially A64 close to 50 to 57 is just fairly normal.

FYI, AMD CPU can take even at 80C ranging temp. Thats how its being designed.

Try to check if the HS is properly attached, check if the locks are well clipped. If so, then theres no problem with your HSF Installation.

Basically, its normal boss. No need to worry about that as long as the system is working fine.

Thanks kaayo bossing Ian for the info... I know that the limit is 70C as stated at AMD.com but what I am concerned about is the fan which goes upto 5100rpm and up na speed... According to my research that this should be below 5000rpm... unsa kaha boss?

HSF with Heat Pipes for example is the Thermaltake Big Typhoon. Its a great HSF. Can compete with Thermalright's Entry.

RE Fan RPM. Motherboards can't really detect the actual RPM. RPMs are based on the Voltages given. Example, a 5V Fan Running is Slower and more quite than 12V Fan Running. Basically, current especially with our source (PSU) is not constant.

So your Fan RPM is just normal and stock.
Again boss, whats important is the System. If its running well without hangups and crashes.. Its great.
