it's so sad that one of the heritage sites of Cebu has been razed by fire...

they say that...
"The church sat about 50 meters away from the Oslob fire station in Barangay Poblacion, but much of the firefighting came from the neighboring towns of Santander, Argao, Dalaguete and Sibonga, because Oslob’s two firetrucks were defective. "

"THE fire that struck the southern town of Oslob, Cebu yesterday once again highlighted the poor state of firefighting equipment of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Firefighters, assisted by 10 residents, had to push one of Oslob’s firetrucks to the scene of the fire, 50 meters away, so that it could pump water to put out the blaze. "

"The town’s sole firetruck with a functioning pump did not have a clutch repair kit and the firemen had no choice but to push the truck to the Immaculate Conception Parish Church in Poblacion, Oslob early morning yesterday.

I remember sitting in that church and feeling the cool breeze blowing in my face as I listened to the sermon of the priest... I hope that they are able to rebuild this church soon... I was fortunate enough to visit this beautiful church and see it for myself before it was destroyed by fire...

fire stations are only as good as the equipment they use..what good is a fire station who cant put off fire?..

yup, they were able to buy a clutch assembly, but it wouldn't fit the truck, according to Vice Mayor Letigio.
they said they were getting another one i think this week...

Faulty electrical wiring was the suspect of the cause of fire. The parish priest there said the wirings could have been 100-150 yrs old already. grabeha noh, wala nlng gyud ka huna2x. part of maintenance man unta na cya...

i think it's about time all old churches should update their wiring systems including warning or security systems so as to prevent fires in the future. much more with burglary of antique pieces...

it is such as big loss to the fact that Oslob church is the 4th oldest church of Cebu...

unsa naman lang diay gamit anang declare2x nila ug Heritage structures?

usa ray masulti nako ani: SAYANG! our children and our children's children cannot anymore see that preserved cultural heritage in their lifetime. if restored, it will never be the same again...

but regardless of the cause, we can never get back what was lost... giddyboy was right, a part of Cebu's heritage has just gone up in ashes...
