ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines -- He wants to reach a wider audience because he feels Manila media have not been fair, so lawyer Salvador Panelo has embarked on a radio tour in the provinces.
Panelo said he speaks for former Commission on Elections chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr., who has been accused of asking a $130-million commission from the $329-million national broadband network deal between the Arroyo government and Chinese firm ZTE Corp.
"Filipinos outside Metro Manila deserve to know the truth and we are losing in terms of propaganda because Manila media prefer [Senate witness Rodolfo Noel] Lozada [Jr.] dahil mabili ang kwento niya [because his story sells]," Panelo said over Radio Mindanao Network's dxRZ Radyo Agong here Wednesday.
But during Panelo’s tirade, the station was
swamped with calls and text messages --
some advising the lawyer to shut up.
Some of the callers also called on Panelo to tell President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to revoke all executive orders preventing Cabinet officials to appear before the Senate inquiry into the NBN scandal.
"I was listening and one thing is clear, my impression is that majority of our people believe Lozada," Father Angel Calvo, executive president of Peace Advocate Zamboanga, said.
Joel Sanson, manager of dxRz radio station, said that, based on the phone calls and text messages they received, "the Zamboangueños don't believe him [Panelo] or even his client, former chairman Abalos."
"In fact, callers argued with him," Sanson added.
Mirisi!
Ha ha ha ha. Pag sundog sundog pa!
