Lawyer Oliver Lozano on Tuesday filed an impeachment complaint against officials of the Commission on Elections for betrayal of public trust over the nullified poll automation contract with Mega Pacific Consortium.
Lozano, a lawyer for the Marcos family, lodged the complaint against COMELEC Chairman Benjamin Abalos and commissioners Florentino Tuazon and Rex Borra before the House of Representatives. He said he based his complaint on the 2004 decision of the Supreme Court that voided the contract for bidding irregularities.
This marked the second time that Lozano filed an impeachment complaint against the COMELEC officials. The first case was rejected by the House secretary general for his failure to get an endorsement from House members.
Lozano said he is confident that he will get endorsements from some congressmen including Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero Pichay Jr.
Pichaey earlier told reporters that the best way to remove Abalos and other officials is through impeachment.
Lozano said that he will also lodge an impeachment complaint against Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez after her office absolved COMELEC and Mega Pacific officials from any criminal liability in the poll automation contract.
