Whats your take on this?

what apps do u intend to use this for? kung htpc or games...then the E8500 would suffice...wala pa ko kita games gamit sa full quads...but for future proof then q6600 gyud.also i think less heat ning dual core E8500 than the q6600.basin mo matter ning silent oprn.my opinion...
pahabol...naa na diay game mo take advantage KUNO sa tanang cores sa procie...the next generation of Crysis...assign na sa game engine ang AI,physics, audio etc to the different cores..i don't know how true ni...
I'd go for the Q6600 since its faster pero it seems like the Penryn Quad Cores are just around the corner.
E8500 is nice since it runs cooler and can OC to 4Ghz on air... pero with the 1333FSB.. i think u need a good mobo to pair with it.
I'd wait for the new quad cores or buy the E8500 now.
Q6600, for very obvious reasons.Originally Posted by muzikfreakah
But for what reason is the processor choice and do you intend to overclock or not ?
quads ftw....
Im going for E8500. This should last for the next few years, by then new quads will have came out that are actually being used by multi-core aps. Right now, most of the time, aps even just use 1 core. And the E8500 can OC up to 4.5ghz on stock cooling which would still be faster the the Q6600 OC'ed to the max.
Well I guess my post should have been like this:
Rate 1 to 10 for each category (dont consider price over performance, thats another story as the AMD would prolly win there)
HTPC(video decoding)
Gaming
Ordinary Office use (internet, word , exel etc..)
Video Encoding (quads win here)
Dont get carried away by people who have a golden chip from a certain batch, most wolfdales hit the wall at 4Ghz with stock cooling since the voltage increase is quite huge after that if you want to keep the chip alive for a long time you then limit your self at 1.295v as MAX,regardless of whats the max voltage on intels white papers.Originally Posted by muzikfreakah
No, with the current prices right now AMD has no chance in any segment compared to intel even on stock speeds, overclocking makes the gap wider.Originally Posted by muzikfreakah
HTPC(video decoding)
-HTPC is an HTPC, it needs to be cool and dead silent my ideal HTPC processor is a stock E2160 paired with a videocard with onboard HD decoders like the HD35xx series or the 8400
E8500-1 , Q6600-1 , E2160-9
Gaming
-Gaming on a desktop, With the current games right now a dualcore processor will be good enough the E8500 will be faster than the Q6600.
E8500-8 , Q6600-1
Ordinary Office use (internet, word , exel etc..)
-E2160 wins here
Video Encoding (quads win here)
-Actually depending on the efficiency of the encoder, assumed the E8500 is running at 4Ghz and the Q6600 is at 3.2Ghz, the E8500 might come out faster.
All in all its personal preference, As for me why did i choose a Q6600.. since i came from singlecore ( A64 3700+ ) during its release, since my choice was a E6750 or a Q6600 the price difference of 3,000 made it quite obvious on what my purchase was..
But i love my Q6600 very much, and never looked back at those fancy 4Ghz dualcores.
I guess it boils than to personal preference. I plan on getting quads 45nm nalang sa, Ill wait for those, and Im sure by the time they are released, A lot of aps will have use for four cores already![]()
Thanks for the input guys![]()
